Car sales plummet in the US

Most sales data in the United States makes it clear that they are in poor condition.

Although coronavirus lasted there for only a month, quarterly figures plummeted. The first quarter is over, so manufacturers traditionally announce how many new cars have been sold in the past three months. How coronavirus affected sales of new cars in Europe is already known, and on the other side of the ocean the situation is no different. Sales in the US were mostly declining, but the March result only worsened the situation.

The biggest loser is Fiat, which compared to the first quarter of 2019 sold only half of this number of cars. The biggest loser in the country is Buick, whose sales fell 34.7%. Dodge and Cadillac were also hit hard: −20% and −15.8%, respectively. Ford recorded a sharp drop of 13.2%. Homegrown brands that still lose the least are Chrysler (-5%) and Chevrolet (-3.8%). Lincoln and RAM are doing great, and in 2020 they even sold 2.3 and 3% more than in the first quarter of 2019, respectively.

The list closes with one of the key figures in the American car market – Tesla. According to the press service of the company, for the first quarter of 2020, dealers sold over 88 thousand electric cars. Despite the coronavirus, the brand delivered 88.4 thousand cars to customers.
