The proceeds from the bidding will go towards a food distribution campaign for the poor.
A new world record for the price of a license plate was set on Saturday in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The registration mark of this state, consisting of two letters and one number, was auctioned off for 38 million dirhams (more than $ 10 million) at a charity auction in Dubai, held online.
The name of the customer who bought the AA9 number is not yet known. License plates U31, T38 and E51 will also be seen at auction. Thanks to the auction, it was possible to gain 48.5 million dirhams ($ 13.2 million).
Among the participants in the auction was the Prime Minister of the UAE himself, as well as the ruler of Dubai, Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The proceeds from the bidding will go towards a food distribution campaign for the poor.
The previous record was also set in Dubai. The D5 registration mark was sold in 2016 for 33 million dirhams (almost $ 9 million). Before the start of the Ramadan fast, the Emirate of Dubai said that it would distribute 100 million servings of food to the poor. Part of the funds are going to be collected at various charity auctions.
