Canada introduces $ 5,000 subsidies for “poor” electric vehicle buyersMarch 20, 2019
In Canada, the government has decided to stimulate sales of electric vehicles, and therefore introduces subsidies for electric car buyers.
Benefits will be given to all who will purchase electric cars with a cost below 45 thousand dollars.
However, this does not apply to Tesla vehicles.
Some regions in Canada currently have such programs in place, but there has never been a federal program to reduce the cost of electric cars. Therefore, the Canadian government has provided in the last budget funds for subsidies for the purchase of electric cars.
“To encourage more Canadians to buy vehicles with zero emissions, the 2019 budget proposes to allocate $ 300 million to encourage the purchase of electric cars and hydrogen-powered cars. The subsidies will be valid when buying a car worth less than 45 thousand dollars and amount to $ 5,000, ”the statement reads.
It is worth noting that Nissan Leaf, Chevy Bolt EV and Hyundai Ioniq Electric buyers will be able to receive subsidies, but not a single Tesla model was included in this list, because the cost of the base Model 3 is 47 thousand US dollars.
The document also provides for the expansion of infrastructure, namely the equipment of charging stations in parking lots, near offices and residential buildings.
