Can the BMW i8 overtake the Polestar 1 and Porsche 911 Carrera?March 17, 2020
A team from the YouTube channel Auto Motor & Sport decided to race between two hybrid sports car-Bavarian i8 roadster and the Swedish hybrid Polestar 1, as well as the all-new Porsche 911 Carrera, which uses a fully gasoline powerplant.
As reported in a Bavarian BMW official statement last week, the i8 hybrid supercar will cease to exist in April – this month it is scheduled for completion of mass production. It is worth noting that this car can rightly be called a bestseller in its segment.
Before you watch the video about the races, let’s first analyze here the actual performance of the rivals, which are stated by their creators.
The BMW i8 Roadster produces 369 horsepower (569 Nm) – under the hood is a 1.3-liter 1.3-liter turbocharged internal combustion engine and two electric motors.
The Swedish Polestar 1 produces much more power thanks to its dual electric motors and a 2.0-liter engine. The total power is 619 hp. (1001 Nm) of torque, but it is also about 907 kg heavier than a hybrid Bavarian.
Now a few words about the Porsche 911 Carrera. It has the same weight as the BMW i8, and under its hood is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine with 379 hp. (449 Nm).
