Button: In 2019, my program at WEC will be very limitedDecember 6, 2018
In 2018, the Englishman combined performances, having managed to prove himself in both series. In the Japanese SuperGT, he won the title along with his Honda partner Naoki Yamamoto, and in the World Endurance Championship, along with Vitaly Petrov and Mikhail Alyoshin, brought the first SMP Racing podium in the LMP1 class. But it seems that next year he will spend not so many stages behind the wheel of the first Russian sport prototype BR1.
The fact is that two of the three remaining races of the superseason 2018/2019 WEC coincide with the SuperGT schedule. In parallel with “12 hours of Sebring”, pre-season tests will be held, and with “6 hours of Spa” the stage in Fuji will cross. In addition to that, from 2019 season, Button will be a commentator on Sky Sports F1 on the full schedule.
In SMP Racing confirmed that the question of continuing cooperation with Jenson Button in the super-season 2019/2020 has not yet been discussed.
“It was a tense year. I had no idea that I would have to make so many trips. 21 times or so I flew from Los Angeles, [Jenson lives in the USA], this is really a lot, – quotes Button British Autosport. “Next year should be a little calmer, since my program at WEC will be very limited, and I will completely focus on SuperGT.”
Likely mate Button in the crew number 11 may be Sergei Sirotkin, remaining without a place in Formula 1 for 2019.
