Bugatti will be the world’s first automaker to make brake calipers using 3D printing. This is reported by the press office of the French brand.
Titanium calipers are made with the help of special 400-watt lasers. The metal powder is heated to 700 degrees and is applied by 2213 layers. The entire process takes at least 45 hours.
The weight of each detail is 41 cm long and is 2.9 kg, which is two kilograms lighter than an aluminum analog. In this case, titanium is much stronger than aluminum and is able to withstand a pressure of 125 kg per millimeter. In Bugatti noted that the technology of manufacturing calipers borrowed from motorsports and aircraft.
At the moment, the company Bugatti produces the only model – the hypercar Chiron. The coupe is equipped with a 1500-horsepower seven-liter W16 engine with four turbochargers. The car can accelerate to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds, and its maximum speed “for safety” is limited to 420 km per hour. To remove the restriction requires a special key, which moves the limiter to a mark of 450 km per hour.
