Bugatti will release the W16 motor for another 10 yearsFebruary 1, 2020
The mighty engine will remain in operation until the end of the 2020s
Bugatti has no intention of discontinuing the production of an eight-liter sixteen-cylinder engine with four turbochargers.
The production version of the legendary sixteen-cylinder engine with four turbines debuted in 2005 on the Bugatti Veyron hypercar. Since then, quite a lot of time has passed and Chiron managed to come to replace Veyron, however, even after 15 years, the W16 engine is not going to retire. As the head of Bugatti Stefan Winkelmann said in an interview with Autocar, the motor is not going to be removed from production until the end of the 2020s. This unit of the exotic W-shaped layout will remain in operation for the next 10 years, despite the regular tightening of the standards for the content of harmful emissions.
According to the head of the brand, the head of the Volkswagen Group Herbert Diss also fully supports the preservation in the Bugatti model range of the unique eight-liter W16 engine, “because he knows the price.” Another fact of no small importance for Bugatti is that today no other carmaker in the world produces similar engines anymore, which makes French hypercars even more exclusive. Chiron, as you know, will be produced until 2021, which means that the sixteen-cylinder engine will inherit its successor.
