Bugatti thought about the “budget” electrified alternative to ChironMarch 15, 2019
Bugatti CEO Stefan Winkelman said recently that the French brand is considering adding a second and more affordable model to its lineup, which currently consists only of Chiron.
According to Winckelmann, the company does not mind working with electrified power plants, and reduce the price of one model for more “massive” sales. But let’s not wear rose-colored glasses, because the price of Bugatti still does not fall below many hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The head of Bugatti declined to comment further, but acknowledged that the automaker has already begun to analyze the prospect of a new model, not related to Chiron.
Regarding the prospects of the new electrified Bugatti, according to the general opinion, there is currently no technology that would help to obtain sufficient stable performance from electric batteries for a two-ton hypercar.
Simply put, the range of run on existing lithium-ion batteries of such a car will be too small, and besides, due to the weight, it will not be possible to achieve sufficient dynamics. So we are talking more about the hybrid model, and then not in the next few years.
