The innovative design will help extend the battery life of Bollinger EVs. The company plans to produce battery packs for its own models in 2021 and will also make them “commercially available for standalone applications.”

Bollinger gained public attention when it introduced the electric pickup and SUV B1 and B2. Compared to the Rivian R1T, Tesla Cybertruck and the upcoming Ford F-150, Bollinger’s closest rivals, the B1 and B2 have a more utilitarian design reminiscent of a vintage Land Rover designed for harsher off-roading.

According to a patent filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, each Bollinger model will be powered by the company’s developed E-Chassis electric platform, which contains a lithium-ion battery, available in several sizes. Bollinger’s battery compartment will feature an innovative design that saves space and provides better cooling.

“The heart of every EV is the battery, so it was extremely important for us to develop our own battery pack,” explained CEO Robert Bollinger. “Our engineering team has created a package with high strength structural properties, exemplary cooling system and state-of-the-art software.”

The Bollinger battery pack consists of modules in a 35 kWh chain that can be connected in series or in parallel, allowing them to be used in a variety of sizes and configurations. The battery pack will be offered in capacities of 35, 70, 105, 140, 175 kWh and above, with many of them being able to operate in both 350V and 700V configurations.

During the presentation of the B1 and B2, Bollinger stated that the 120 kWh battery will provide a range of 320 km, while the 4 electric motors will produce 614 hp in total. and 905 Nm of torque. Using the fast charging system, the 120 kWh battery can be fully charged in 75 minutes. The battery modules are connected to both sides of a symmetrical structural I-beam with heat conduits to cool the modules.

The Bollinger Battery Management System software, developed in-house by the company, can also monitor voltage, current and temperature and work with other control units in the vehicle to improve efficiency and extend battery life. It can also detect and isolate failures to keep the system running safely. Bollinger’s optimized battery will also be able to support heavier vehicles such as medium-duty trucks, agricultural and construction equipment.
