BMW will refuse the engine V12February 25, 2018
Another engine was a victim of environmental standards.
The issue with some BMW engines, like other manufacturers, will be resolved through modernization, or retrofitting with an additional filter, while some will probably have to say goodbye. This fate awaits the V12 biturbomotor, which is installed on the top versions of the flagship sedan M760i and M760Li.
According to the BMW Blog, referring to “reliable sources in Munich”, the 601-strong unit will leave the composition of the power spectrum of the European version of the model in about a year – when the restyling version of the “seven” will enter the market. The return of the 12-cylinder engine in the future is still unknown.
Theoretically, the V12 engine of 6.6 liters could continue to live under the hood of the American version of the M760i. In addition, the rejection of the V12 engine may also mean that the future flagship X7 will not have it, at least on the European market. It is also interesting that it will be with Rolls-Royce, which uses a similar 12-cylinder engine. All these questions remain unanswered.
Recently it became known also that for environmental reasons the production of the “charged” BMW M3 sedan will be completed earlier than planned.
