BMW will not produce “charged” station wagonsAugust 31, 2019
20 years ago, the Bavarians built a prototype station wagon BMW M3 Touring, but since then nothing like this has ever appeared on sale. As it turned out, it will not appear.
On rumors that the “charged” Touring station wagon will allegedly appear in the BMW M3 family of the new generation, you can put an end to it. As the head of the BMW division M Markus Flash told in an interview with Car, there is simply no more sense in fast and powerful station wagons – they were quite successfully replaced by crossovers, which are more practical than passenger cars, and ride no worse. According to Flash, in some European countries there might be several fans who want to buy the M3 station wagon, but they are too few for the project to even pay off, not to mention a stable profit.
The head of BMW M says that “hot” crossovers are much more promising on the global market and have much more potential than generalists – that is why models such as the X3 M, X4 M, X5 M and X6 M appear in the line of the division with the X3 M, we did not develop the M-version of the X3, but the M3 in the crossover. If you live in the mountains, like to ride a bicycle or snowboard, or you have to carry a lot of things with you, then, of course, you can deal with this with the BMW M3, but it will be much easier with a crossover, ”says Flash.
