BMW will make the fastest racing droneMarch 20, 2018
BMW has entered into an agreement with the founders of the world Drone Racing League (DRL) drone race, in which the brand will develop the world’s fastest racing quadcopter. In addition, one of the stages of the series will be held at the BMW Welt Exhibition Center.
According to the head of the department of innovative marketing Jorg Reymann, a partnership with DRL will allow the company to try itself in a new format of competitions, using the experience gained in the development of racing cars. In particular, we are talking about developments in the field of high-performance materials and digital technologies.
New quadrocycles will be tested at the BMW Aerodynamic Testing Center with the involvement of the necessary specialists and engineers. The goal is to beat the speed record set by DRL RacerX last year. Then the manually assembled racing drone was able to accelerate to 265.87 kilometers per hour.
Automakers are increasingly using drones to advertise their models. Thus, the company Jaguar organized a race called “Drones”, which was to demonstrate the benefits of the long-running version of the flagship XJL. Participants of the competition had to hold two racing drones through thirteen frames, repeating the shape of the rear door openings of the sedan.
