BMW will discontinue the M2 sports modelMay 31, 2020
Soon, sales of models in Europe will completely cease due to stringent environmental requirements for cars.
BMW has decided to abandon sales of the M2 sports model in Europe due to the stricter requirements for emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. This became known on Sunday, May 31. At the same time, even the modification of M2 CS, which entered the market only a year ago, will not be sold. But for other markets where the model was presented earlier, it will remain relevant.
New environmental standards called Euro 6d will enter into force on January 1, 2021. Modernization of the M2 with the S55 index, which began to be released back in 2013, will require a lot of costs. This does not seem very advisable against the background of the fact that the new BMW M2 with the F87 index is under active development. However, it is definitely not worth waiting for its appearance before 2022.
It is expected that the new generation BMW M2 will receive a motor from the powerful X3 M and X4 M models, but its power will be reduced from 480 to 420 hp. respectively. The manufacturer promises that some configurations will retain the manual gearbox.
Meanwhile, new details about the BMW M5 sedan became known. One of the modifications will receive an electric motor with a power of more than 1000 hp.
