Just a few weeks after the world premiere, BMW M presents an exclusive coupe version of the BMW M4 Competition Coupe. The car was created in collaboration with the New York lifestyle brand Kith. A total of 150 examples of the BMW M4 Competition x Kith will be produced.
The coupé features unique exterior and interior design details that immersed BMW M GmbH in a youthful fashion atmosphere. The founder of the Kith brand, Ronnie Fieg, is known as a fan of BMW cars, so the collaboration was especially important and emotional for him. Along with the start of ordering for the special edition, Kith is launching a collection of 96 exclusive garments and accessories in all of its stores and online.
“Close attention to street style trends is part of our approach to developing the BMW brand. With his ideas and the Kith label, Ronnie Fieg is recognized as one of the opinion leaders in the world of fashion and luxury. Our partnership with Ronnie and his influential brand will be a new driving force for BMW to explore and reach new target audiences, ”explained Jens Thiemer, Senior Vice President, BMW Customer and Brand.
“This is not the first time that BMW M GmbH has produced a limited edition of one of its vehicles in an exclusive partnership. This is a great opportunity for BMW M GmbH to bridge the gap from the original BMW M3 to the new sixth generation BMW M4 Competition Coupe. It will also allow us to engage with a promising new target group. Streetwear is transforming from a cultural phenomenon into a global trend and bringing an element of exclusivity to many areas, ”added Markus Flusch, CEO of BMW M GmbH.
“Everything we work on at Kith has roots. One of my favorite childhood memories is of my grandfather and driving his BMW in the 1980s. I remember he had an E21 320i and his jewel was an E30 M3. These moments really shaped my passion for BMW, so working with the concern on this project gave me a lot of vivid emotions, ”said Kith founder Ronnie Fieg.
Fieg recently bought himself the legendary first-generation BMW E30 M3 coupe and BMW M GmbH prepared the vehicle for the official presentation of the collaboration at the Kith store in Brooklyn on 23 October. Next to him was a sixth-generation car in a unique look from Kith. Both coupes are painted in the Cinnabar Red shade that originally appeared on the BMW E30 M3. This paint is no longer used in the current BMW lineup and has been chosen for the exclusive BMW M4 Competition Coupe to highlight the link between generations.
The M4 Competition badge on the boot lid of the new BMW has been replaced with a black Kith logo with BMW M stripes in the same style. This illuminated logo is found under the headrests of the carbon M front seats, while the Kith wordmark is embossed on the black leather of the headrests and on the center console.
The same embossed leather was used on the seats of Fieg’s BMW E30 M3. Here, the Kith logo with BMW M stripes is finished in silver. On the Bavarian brand emblems on the bonnet, trunk lid and steering wheel, the BMW lettering is replaced with Kith. Logo mixing is a hallmark of many of Kith’s collaborations with other internationally renowned companies. However, this is the first time BMW has changed its logo for a partner. Around the BMW logo on the new M4, an additional circle has appeared in the BMW M colors: light blue, dark blue and red. In addition, bright touches have been added to highlight the collaboration between BMW and Kith. The rear of the BMW M4 Competition x Kith also features a black Kith logo with BMW M stripes. Models from the Special Edition are exclusively available in Frosty Black, Frosty Dark Silver, and Frosty Diamond White matt finishes. It is a tribute to the three most popular colors of the BMW E30 M3 during its production period.
One of the highlights of the exclusive BMW M4 Competition x Kith is the Kith-designed carbon fiber roof panel. It features the Kith wordmark with BMW M stripes. BMW M compound brakes with red calipers and M logo are standard. They are clearly visible through the twin-spoke forged two-tone 826M design wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear.
Inside the BMW M4 Competition x Kith, there are three-tone M Carbon bucket seats. Inlays in light blue and red BMW M contrast with black Merino leather trim. Like Ronnie Fiega’s BMW E30 M3, the ‘Kith’ embossing is featured on the black leather front and rear headrests and the center armrest. The center console now features the Kith logo and BMW M stripes. The illuminated M badge under the front head restraints also features “Kith” lettering.
The special edition car has the same technical specifications as the BMW M4 Competition Coupe. The new six-cylinder in-line engine from BMW M GmbH with the latest version of M TwinPower Turbo technology develops 510 hp. and a peak torque of 650 Nm. The eight-speed M Steptronic Drivelogic automatic transmission is standard. Acceleration from 0 km / h to 100 km / h takes 3.9 seconds, to 200 km / h – 12.5 seconds.
