BMW spoke about the new generation 4-Series coupeApril 30, 2020
BMW Corporation announced the launch of the final stage of driving tests coupe 4 series of the second generation. The Germans also declassified some of the technical characteristics of the variation of the M440i xDrive, which will be one step lower than the M4 and will receive a soft-hybrid power unit.
A variation of the M440i xDrive will get a 374-strong inline “turbo six” and an 11-horsepower starter-generator that assists ICE in acceleration. It receives power from the 48 volt network. The power plant operates along with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The drive will be offered complete with a front axle clutch and an electronically controlled differential at the rear.
The 4-Series will be 57 mm lower than the BMW 3 Series co-platform sedan (1385 mm), and the center of gravity of the coupe will be lowered by 21 mm. To increase the rigidity of the body, additional amplifiers appeared under the hood, on the bottom and at the points of attachment of the suspension elements.
The aerodynamic drag coefficient of the coupe is 0.015 lower than that of the sedan. But for 3-Series this parameter varies depending on the variation. The best indicator of 0.23 belongs to the modification 320d.
