More than forty years after the launch of the first model, the propeller company renews its travel motorcycle making it even more technological and comfortable
“RT”. An acronym full of meaning and history for BMW, which for over forty years in these two magical letters embodies a philosophy that has made entire generations of motorcyclists fall in love with it. More than four decades after the launch of the first model, the motorcycle division of the Bavarian house is looking to the future of sport touring motorcycles by making a series of changes and innovations to the new R 1250 RT which will be launched in 2021. The motorcycle has been upgraded. summarized in the words of the project manager, Harald Spagl: “We have given it a new look, we have enriched the standard equipment and made numerous technical improvements to give our customers a driving experience never experienced before”.
The differences compared to the model currently in the price list are not limited to the new fairing, more aerodynamic and streamlined. Nor the 136 HP Euro 5 boxer engine, the same as its sister GS. On the new R 1250 RT there are many electronic features that make it an increasingly sophisticated and usable motorcycle on long journeys. On the travel bike of the German company, for example, the “Eco” driving mode makes its debut as standard equipment, very useful when you don’t need great power, for example in the city. The standard specification also includes ABS Pro, which uses on-board sensors and optimizes braking based on the lean angle when cornering. The package also includes cruise control. The new 10.25-inch color TFT display allows navigation maps to be viewed in the instrument cluster.
There is an extensive list of options that allow you to customize the motorcycle according to the taste and driving sensitivity of customers. On request you can have electronically controlled suspension, Pro driving mode (with engine torque control), adaptive lights that follow the trajectory of the bike and adaptive cruise control with dynamic control of the distance from the vehicle precedes. The list is completed by a series of accessories for on-board comfort: from the emergency call in the event of an accident to Hill start control for hill starts, up to the Audio System 2.0 stereo system and a special ventilated housing with charging socket. to store the smartphone and connect it to the infotanment. Options that make travel even more comfortable, relaxing and intelligent, but that increase the starting price of 19,700 euros, and not a little.
