BMW plans to seriously update its lineupSeptember 23, 2020
BMW spoke about the innovations that will occur in the near future with its European model range. Apparently, the main focus will be on the electrification of current engines.
One of the key updates to the BMW lineup is the introduction of plug-in hybrid versions of the popular 5 Series family – the BMW 545e xDrive Sedan, 530e Touring and 530e xDrive Touring.
Of these, the 545e xDrive sedan is of particular interest thanks to its in-line six-cylinder engine with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic transmission. This powerplant produces a total of 394 hp, which is transmitted to all four wheels.
BMW has also added new inline-six diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology to the option list for the 3 and 8 Series models.
From November 2020, the treshka will be available in the so-called mild hybrid variants – 330d Sedan, 330d Touring and 330d xDrive Touring, each with 286 hp. As for the flagship G8, it will be sold with a mild hybrid diesel engine in the form of the 840d xDrive Coupe and the 840d xDrive Convertible with 340 hp.
The German automaker will also offer new powertrains for the 1 Series and 2 Series Grand Coupe. A new addition to the range is the BMW 116i with a 109 hp three-cylinder petrol engine. (190 Nm). This model has a six-speed transmission as standard, while a seven-speed Steptronic can be ordered as an option. The 1 Series now also includes a 178 hp 120i version. (280 Nm). Meanwhile, the 2 Series Gran Coupe can be purchased in the form of a 216d Gran Coupe with a 116 hp three-cylinder diesel engine. (270 Nm).
BMW Urban Cruise Control has been updated to include traffic light recognition, which prompts the car to stop at a red light and accelerate when the light turns green. BMW also announced that adaptive LED headlights will be available on the X1 and X2, and has announced a number of new paint options for the 4 Series, X5, X6 and X7.
