BMW is working on a new V8 engineSeptember 28, 2019
While Daimler AG is thinking about completely stopping the development of new ICEs, their BMW colleagues still believe that all the juice from their units has not been squeezed out, especially when it comes to the engine in the V8 configuration.
According to the BMW Blog portal, the Bavarian company is working on a new turbocharged V8 engine, which will replace the 4.4-liter unit of the N63 / S63 series, whose power in the top specification can reach 617 hp (under the hood of the BMW M5 Competition). The new engine will receive the S68 index and will be installed on the limited edition BMW M5 CS sedan, a prototype of which has been seen several times at the Nurburgring. There is no information about its characteristics yet (but it is hardly worth doubting that it will be more powerful). However, it is known that he can get a 48-volt starter-generator, which will improve its fuel efficiency and reduce the level of emissions of harmful substances.
There is no information on the expected debut date of the new motor, it is likely that this will happen simultaneously with the premiere of the BMW M5 CS in 2020 or 2021.
