BMW introduced the X7 crossoverOctober 17, 2018
BMW showed the new X7 crossover, the largest model in the line. The BMW X7 will compete primarily with the Mercedes-Benz GLS, as well as the Range Rover, Lexus LX and Cadillac Escalade.
The X7 was noticeably longer than the new X5: 5151 mm versus 4922 mm. The difference in the wheelbase is also noticeable – it is more than 130 mm for the X7. Thanks to a significant increase, the novelty from BMW received a full third row of seats, and all modifications of the X7, including the base, will be seven-seater. As an option, BMW will offer a six-seater saloon – in this case, the second-row seats will be separated by wide armrests.
At the start of sales the novelty will be offered in three versions. The base version will be the xDrive 30d with a three-liter 249-horsepower diesel engine. In addition, it will be possible to order the X7 in the petrol version of the xDrive 40i – with a three-liter twin-turbo with 340 hp. The most powerful and expensive version is xDrive M50d (three-liter 400 hp turbo diesel). All motors work with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system.
In the basic version of the X7 will receive a fully LED headlights, high-beam control, four-zone climate control, electric front seats, a large panoramic roof, electric fifth door and 20-inch wheels.
In addition, the initial modification provides an adaptive suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers – it allows you to change the ground clearance of the crossover in the range of 80 mm. All versions, except the sports M50d, will receive an Off-Road package with four settings: “Sand”, “Gravel”, “Stones” and “Snow”. In each, the algorithms of the gearbox, the all-wheel drive system, the responses to the accelerator pedal pressure change, and the system itself chooses the most optimal ground clearance.
As an option for its largest crossover, BMW will offer laser headlights (shine 600 meters ahead), five-zone climate control, advanced Bowers & Wilkins acoustics and 22-inch wheels. Even for the BMW X7 several active assistants will be available: adaptive cruise control, restraint system, lane assist and warning system when leaving the parking lot in reverse (the car will brake itself if it sees an obstacle).
The driver of the BMW X7 (and all new models of the brand, starting in March 2019) will be assisted by a smart assistant. It works on the same principle as Siri and Alice, that is, it is able to handle voice requests. To call the assistant, it will be enough to say: “Hey, BMW” or “OK, BMW”. The Germans promise to constantly update the system and improve the skills of the assistant.
