BMW i3 and i8 covered with 24 carat goldJune 28, 2018
The Czech office BMW presented an exclusive version of the electric car i3 and the hybrid sport car i8 under the name of Starlight Edition. The peculiarity of the machines, the style of which was developed by artist Miroslav Spičak and designer Zoltan Matushka, became a two-tone painting of the body with 24-carat gold plating. This is reported by BMWBlog.
Completion of i3 and i8 was carried out in cooperation with the company Toplac – the official partner of BMW in the Czech Republic and the representative of the paint manufacturer BASF. As part of the project, Liebscher Blattgold created a special painting process that provided a smooth transition from gold to the original color of the car.
Both cars are covered with four layers of gold – the last layer is applied manually. To give visual depth, the car body is also painted with six layers of original paint.
Gold plating is also used in the interior: to decorate the deflectors of the climate control system, the central tunnel and the logo on the steering wheel. In addition, a sign with the inscription “STARLIGHT Edition one of one” is installed in the cabin of each car of the special series.
BMW i3 and i8 in the performance of Starlight Edition are created in a single copy. Machines plan to sell at a charity auction.
