BMW has announced the release of hybrid versions of its modelsJanuary 17, 2020
A number of BMW diesel models will be equipped with soft hybrid power systems as standard from spring, promising improved fuel economy and lower emissions.
All 320d models, including all-wheel drive xDrive, X3 xDrive20d and X4 xDrive20d, equipped with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine, will receive a 48V starter generator and an additional battery for 11 horsepower, regenerative braking capabilities. and improved inertial motion function.
It is said that a small generator improves acceleration from a standstill and can be used at speed to reduce fuel consumption. It will also allow a smoother restart in traffic jams and at intersections.
Regenerative braking works by turning off the internal combustion engine at a speed of less than 9 miles per hour, restoring kinetic energy when the car stops. Similarly, at speeds of up to 99 km per hour, the inertia function now turns off the diesel engine, rather than switching it to idle mode.
BMW says the system, along with tax and environmental benefits, “improves both efficiency and momentum” for the updated models.
Along with the introduction of soft hybrid technology, BMW has introduced a new diesel version of its 1 Series hatchback. The 120d uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 hp to accelerate from 0 to 100 km per hour in 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 230 km per hour. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 318i with a gasoline engine has also been updated, replacing its three-cylinder engine with a 2-liter four-cylinder unit that pumps out 154 hp. and 184 pound feet. Now the 318i sedan will accelerate from 0-100 km per hour in 8.4 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 220 km per hour.
WLTP consumption data, specifications, and pricing will be confirmed closer to the release of new models in March.
In addition, additional equipment, including the function of a closing door, was provided as standard in the line of the manufacturer of the flagship series 7 and compartment of the 8 series as standard.
