BMW extends i3 battery warranty to 8 yearsJanuary 2, 2020
Now the European owners of the electric BMW i3 can expect to repair or replace the battery if it fails within 8 years or 160,000 km. At the moment, not a single i3 battery has been replaced under warranty due to premature aging.
BMW still has great views of its first i3 electric car, despite not having a direct successor. Production of the model will continue until 2024, and in 2020 it receives an extended warranty. New buyers in Europe can rely on an 8-year warranty limited to a mileage of 160,000 km.
According to the company, the power reserve of the electric car is slightly reduced even with high mileage. Unfortunately, they did not provide accurate data and did not disclose statistics. In addition, not a single high-voltage BMW i3 battery has been replaced due to premature aging. As it turned out in practice, the battery potential is not limited to the previously limited limit of 100,000 km.
This is good news, as many customers point out that battery power and battery wear over time become one of the main problems when buying an electric car. In addition, after long-term use in automobiles, they can still provide valuable services as stationary energy storage devices.
It can be expected that in the future, the BMW i3 will receive an even more powerful battery. BMW Battery Research Center is finding new ways to store even more energy in the same compact package.
