German factories are suffering from a shortage of semiconductors. The release of the electric BMW iX was also in jeopardy.

BMW said on Tuesday that nearly all of its German factories are suffering from an ongoing shortage of semiconductors, which is currently preventing the automaker from completing around 10,000 vehicles.

The Munich-based company said earlier this month that a global problem affecting automakers around the world has already resulted in some 30,000 underdelivery this year.

At the same time, earlier the speedme.ru edition reported that on July 9, 2021, the first unique BMW i3 cars equipped with bi-directional charging technology began to be handed over to customers at the BMW Welt Exhibition Center.

For the foreseeable future, the owners of such BMW i3s will be able to sell the accumulated electricity, and the owners of electric vehicle fleets will use their cars as mobile devices for short-term energy storage.
