BMW 3 Series G20 “lit up” on the highwayJanuary 19, 2018
The Bavarian brand continues to actively test the new generation of the 3 Series sedan, which received the G20 index. Usually tests of fresh German prototypes take place on the legendary Nürburgring track, but during the New Year holidays, major trails are closed, and automakers are sometimes faced with road tests. So it happened this time too.
Those who say that BMW around the world have test tracks – will be right. But the German autobahns are known all over the world, and it is there that you can check the chassis’s high-speed characteristics, and identify weaknesses in it. Perhaps, just in this aspect the Bavarians also worked, and possibly checked the work of the stabilization system, because the video shows that the wet road can contribute to aquaplaning.
The new generation of the sedan will be built on the basis of the chassis of the CLAR. The car will weigh slightly less than the current 3 Series. It is expected that the base version of the sedan will receive a turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine with a capacity of 1.5 liters, while the top version of the M340i will be equipped with an updated three-liter B58 turbocharged engine, which will produce about 380 horsepower. The engine will work with a new eight-speed two-disk “robot” ZF.
By the way, according to our colleagues from the portal Bmwblog, Bavarians can also provide a fully electric version of the sedan, but it has not yet been approved by the top management of the brand. But the hybrid version can be expected with a higher probability.
