Benelli 302 becomes Harley XR338 street tracker conceptNovember 17, 2020
The Italian company Engine Engineering is developing the Benelli 302 motorcycle, which is almost an exact copy of the American Harley XR338. It took only 120 days to create a prototype of the novelty, and according to the creators, it takes another six months to start production.
Harley-Davidson made a splash when it announced the China-exclusive 338R motorcycle in June 2019. Although the company was originally aimed at launching the new product in June 2020, the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and the change of CEO forced plans to change. Now the tests of the model are ongoing.
Tired of waiting for the tiny tracker to finally be released, Italian design house Engines Engineering “took matters into their own hands” and created a custom Benelli 302 that echoes the design of the 338.
Founded by Alberto Strazzari in 1979, the company specializes in motorcycle development and has partnerships with companies such as Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Ducati and Benelli.
In addition to body updates and LED lighting, the team revised the fuel system, gauges and replaced the 18-inch wheels. The new exhaust and ECU make the XR338 a little more noisy, while the suspension tweaks allow it to ride confidently through mud.
Beneath the sculpted bodywork and gray-orange livery, the Benelli 302 retains its 300cc parallel twin. The engine develops 37.5 horsepower as standard. Sure, the updated ECU and exhaust add a few more horsepower, but the prototype still manages to meet Euro5, DOT and CARB regulations.
While Engine Engineering says it took just 120 days to develop their XR338 version, it takes another six months to get ready for production.
Not so long ago, we wrote that the budget Harley-Davidson is already ready for production. The project of the American motorcycle manufacturer (a budget motorcycle with a 338 cc engine) has passed the next stage on the way to the assembly line. The bike is focused primarily on the markets of China and India.
