Base engine data revealed for facelifted Toyota TundraJune 7, 2021
According to the new data, the base engine for the updated Toyota Tundra pickup produces more power than the current V8 engine.
The 2022 Toyota Tundra will be available with two engines, the Japanese automaker’s vice president of North American sales Bob Carter said. The more expensive, extra powertrain will be something that will “amaze you,” says the chief executive.
Mr Carter says the base engine has more power and torque than the existing V8. The 5.7-liter unit in the current Tundra develops 381 hp. (544 Nm).
A longstanding rumor indicates that Toyota plans to replace its naturally aspirated V8 with a turbocharged V6 engine. As an example, leaked information about the new Land Cruiser suggests that it uses a forced induction 3.5-liter V6 engine that develops 409 hp. (650 Nm).
“We have our concept and our own technology, which I think will impress you,” Carter told Motor Trend. “We’re in this to win.”
Carter isn’t the only one to be so positive about the new Tundra. In 2020, Robbie Findlay, chairman of the national Toyota dealer advisory board, said the people who will be selling the next-generation truck are also very happy with it. “I mean we will have a world-class winner and it will be interesting to really come face to face with domestic trucks,” he said then.
The new Tundra uses the new Toyota TGNA-F platform. This architecture can support electrification, so a hybrid (or maybe even PHEV) version of the truck seems like a reasonable option. This could potentially be enough to get dealers interested because they would have something to sell directly against the F-150 plug-in hybrid.
Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote that the new Toyota Aygo 2022 is being prepared for production in the Czech Republic for the European market. The Toyota plant in the Czech Republic will be producing the new model on its production lines from the end of the year. The Japanese firm has housed a small urban model similar to the Toyota Aygo at this production site. The brand will announce the name of the new product in the coming months.
