Baku is completing preparations for the Grand PrixApril 22, 2019
The Grand Prix of Azerbaijan will be held next Sunday, and final preparations for this event are underway in Baku. The race on the most interesting city road will be held for the fourth time, although in 2016, in the year of its debut, it was called the European Grand Prix.
All work in the paddock is almost complete, the streets in the city center are closed to traffic, and all the fences along the route have already been installed.
Lars Sammelius, operational director of the Hilton hotel in Baku, located directly on the highway, shared his impressions about the situation that is emerging these days. According to him, the organizers of the race are making every effort to ensure that the track is in the best possible condition.
“If we talk about the traffic situation, then chaos began again,” said the Dutch manager. – Many streets are blocked, it is clear that coverage has been updated on part of the route. Most of the stands are already fully built.
For us, the week when the Grand Prix takes place is also the most important and most fun of the year. The press center, located on the first floor of our hotel, was prepared, in addition, we organized an exhibition of works by the famous photographer Peter van Egmond, and in the foyer we installed two racing simulators. We have a lot of care, and on Thursday the hotel will be full to capacity, we have not a single free room left. ”
Teams, drivers, representatives of the management of Formula 1 and the FIA live in this hotel, and in the days of the Grand Prix presidential apartments in the Baku Hilton cost 3,000 euros per night, but Sammelius did not say who ordered them.
