Avintia team terminated contract with Karel AbrahamNovember 25, 2019
Karel Abraham ends his MotoGP career and leaves a free spot on the Avintia Aprilia team, which Johann Zarko can take advantage of.
Despite the fact that Abraham, like his partner Tito Rabat, had the option of renewing the contract with Avintia, it became clear to everyone that the team, Dorna, the French promoter Grand Prix and Ducati want to sign Johann Zarko. The Frenchman hoped to get a place on the Repsol Honda factory team, but Alex Marquez took over. Johann previously rejected Avintia’s offer, as the team is not among the top. The situation has now changed a bit. Ducati continue to negotiate with Zarko.
Karel Abraham took part in tests in Valencia and hinted that he intends to use the option to renew the contract for next season. However, the team made another decision.
Karel Abraham made his debut in Grand Prix 125 in 2005, and in 2007 he moved to Grand Prix 250. The Czech driver won his only victory at the 2010 Grand Prix of Valencia in the Moto2 category. For eight years in the premier class, the 29-year-old Czech performed on Ducati, Honda and Aprilia motorcycles (ART). Abraham’s best result at MotoGP is seventh.
In 2016, Karel spent the season in superbike, speaking for the BMW Milwaukee team.
So the question remains open. Will Zarko agree to perform on a relatively weak Aprilia motorcycle ?! Probably, we will find out the answer in the near future, since there are tests on the nose in Jerez.
