Audi will introduce an ultra luxury version of the sedan A8May 24, 2019
The management of the German brand plans to make an even more luxurious version of the Audi A8. The decision to present a similar performance of the A8 sedan was officially announced this week at the company’s annual general meeting.
At the moment, details about the new little – Audi representatives only say that soon there will be “a particularly luxurious and prestigious version of the A8.” The use of the word “prestigious” hints that this may have something to do with the company’s past, perhaps its very origin, when Augustus Horch joined forces with Sally Hertz to create Horch & Cie. Motorwagenwerke AG in 1904.
Five years later, Horch founded a new company – August Horch Automobilwerke GmbH – and eventually renamed it Audi Automobilwerke in 1910.
So how does this relate to the more luxurious version of the A8? In September 2018, Automotive News published information that the management of the German brand is considering the possibility of reviving the name “Horch”. This trade name will receive more luxurious versions of the Audi model range. It is assumed that the car in question will be based on the A8 L (model with increased wheelbase), but without the additional “stretching” of the wheelbase, as is the case with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The wheelbase of the latter is superior in value to that of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
There are rumors about an “exclusive list of equipment that goes beyond the usual A8”, as well as custom-made alloy wheels and a “Horch” badge adorning the front fenders or C-pillars. Under the hood there will be a 612-liter W12 engine at 585 or 626 hp.
