The 2022 model year version of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II racer debuts. The car received many updates, in particular a new wing of a monstrous size and a redesigned engine air intake.

It was back in March 2015 when Audi’s motorsport division unveiled a second-generation R8 racing version with LMS GT3 specification ahead of the V10 race car update in October 2018. Audi Sport today unveils the Evo II specification for its mid-engined supercar, which sits between the GT2 and GT4 in the R8 racetrack-only family.

Redesigned for the 2022 racing season, the R8 LMS GT3 Evo II features improvements in many areas: aerodynamics, chassis, traction control, engine performance and climate control.

While the floor of the predecessor did most of the heavy lifting in terms of downforce, the latest race car configuration primarily relies on a new rear wing to create the desired level of downforce.

For the first time, the R8 LMS GT3’s suspension boasts four adjustable dampers, and the traction control system is more customizable than before. Audi Sport engineers have developed a new engine air intake to provide better torque transmission from a mid-mounted 5.2-liter unit that can develop up to 585 horsepower depending on regulatory requirements.

Interior images have not been provided, but we know the race-ready R8 benefits from redesigned climate controls for improved comfort. These changes will apply to newly built vehicles and also as part of an upgrade package for existing vehicles that want to use the latest Audi Sport developments.

Not so long ago, AutoTinesNews wrote that the Audi brand will not produce the next generation A1 model. In a wide-ranging interview, Audi CEO Markus Düsmann said the A1 would be left without a successor. This foreign car will be removed from production due to internal combustion engines, the cost of which will increase in the coming years.
