Audi RS5 and Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S fight drag with Tesla Model 3December 29, 2019
British carwow bloggers compared the characteristics of three four-wheel drive “hot” cars – the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S crossover, the Audi RS5 Sportback liftback and the Tesla Model 3 electric car in the top performance Performance. Duelists were tested in four disciplines: two accelerations from the start, starting from the spot and assessed the effectiveness of braking.
Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S is the fastest in the class of compact off-road vehicles and out of the three it is the most powerful, heavy and expensive. Under the hood of the crossover, the 510-strong (700 Nm of torque) V8 Twin Turbo, traction is transmitted through a nine-speed automatic transmission AMG Speedshift MCT. The mass of the Mercedes is more than two tons. In the UK, prices for the GLC 63 S start at 88 thousand pounds.
The five-door Audi RS5 Sportback is 300 kilograms lighter than a crossover and about 20 thousand pounds cheaper. The liftback drives a 2.9-liter V-shaped “biturbo six” with a capacity of 450 horsepower and a torque of 600 Nm. The motor is combined with an 8-band “automatic”.
The twin-engine Tesla Model 3 is estimated in the United Kingdom at 53 thousand pounds. The power plant produces 490 horsepower and 660 Nm of torque. An electric car weighs 1847 kilograms.
The strength of the electric car is instant acceleration. However, a comparison with gasoline models emphasized the weakness of the Tesla electrical system – a relatively small maximum speed.
At a quarter mile distance, this factor did not prevent Model 3, and the winner had to be identified by photo finish. But in the races from the spot, bloggers had to abandon the traditional start from 80 kilometers per hour and reduce the initial speed.
