Audi RS3 Sportback may be the best hatchbackApril 20, 2020
The dominance of Mercedes-AMG in the mega-hatchback segment will soon end with a change in the generation of the Audi RS3 Sportback, which is due to be introduced later this year.
The competitor to the AMG A45 and A45 S, the best hatchback in the new Audi A3 lineup, recently got through a test with less camouflage than before, which partially showed a large body kit that visually distinguishes it from the “regular” A3.
The car has a new front bumper with a modified grille and large air intakes on each side, as well as swollen fenders at all four corners with air outlets behind the front wheels. It also features large side skirts, a rear bumper with a built-in diffuser and a roof-mounted spoiler that resembles standard models. The hatchback also gets branded RS-series twin oval exhausts.
The interior has not yet been disclosed, but what will be the difference from conventional models is already known. In addition to the “enveloping” front seats, the sporty atmosphere will be complemented by special upholstery and trim, contrast stitching and piping, the RS emblem and various graphics for the infotainment system and digital dashboard.
The updated version of the 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder gasoline engine is expected to provide about 420 hp to the Audi RS3 Sportback. and 500 Nm of torque as standard. That’s about 20 bhp. more than the current RS3, but it is rumored that the Performance version will allow users to enjoy up to 450 hp. The quattro all-wheel drive system will be standard with a dual-clutch automatic transmission, which may also include drift mode.
