Audi received the Golden Wheel Award in two categories at onceNovember 13, 2019
The German brand won in two categories of the Golden Steering Wheel 2019 competition at once. The winners are the A1 Sportback and e-tron models.
Readers of Auto Bild magazine, the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag and other prestigious publications voted for the cars of the German automaker Audi A1 and Audi e-tron in the nominations “Compact car” and “Big SUV.”
“We are very proud to be a double winner. The Golden Steering Wheel is a welcome award in our industry. We are especially pleased that the all-electric Audi e-tron has won in its class by competing with cars with traditional internal combustion engines. We see this as confirmation that we are on the right track with our electrification strategy. The A1 award also tells us that we launched a new generation car that fully met the expectations of consumers, ” – said Hans-Joachim Rothenpiler, member of the Board of Directors of AUDI AG Technical Development. His words were made in Berlin last night.
In total, in 2019, 58 cars produced since the beginning of October last year took part in the Golden Wheel contest. They were divided into seven classes. During the vote, three cars from each class reached the final, which was held among 21 finalists at the Shipkau circuit in Germany. An international team of experts tested each model to ensure that it met criteria based on a modified version of the point system.
Specialists included Mattias Ekstrom, a former Formula 1 driver, Hans-Joachim Stuck, and moderator Sidney Hoffmann. Auto experts from Auto Bild, its sister publications, and Bild am Sonntag also participated.
Recall that earlier information appeared that the “Charged” electrocross of the Audi E-Tron S was again seen during speed tests. The crossover may receive up to 500 horsepower.
