Audi plans to equip the R8 supercar with a new 2.9-liter V6 petrol engine. Such an aggregate will receive a basic version of the car. Also, the car will continue to be equipped with a rear-wheel drive system. The premiere of the new modification of the car should take place at the Auto Show in New York on March 28, reports Motor1.
At the moment, the same motor is installed on the RS4 and RS5 models, as well as the Porsche Panamera. It is expected that the capacity of the unit will be less than 500 horsepower. At the moment the sports car is equipped with a 5.2-liter atmospheric V10 engine developing 540 hp and 540 Nm of torque.
At last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi introduced the rear-wheel-drive modification of the R8 supercar, which was previously offered exclusively with all-wheel drive. The weight of the new coupe was 1590 kg – 50 kg lighter than the all-wheel drive modification. The open version of the R8 V10 RWS weighs 1680 kg, which is 40 kg lighter than a roadster with the quattro system.
