Audi plans to sell the R8 with only the V10 engine.November 15, 2018
“This is the best engine for our sports car” – that’s exactly what they said at Audi.
Back in February 2016, a photograph was published showing the graphics of the outputs of various models of the German automaker.
Well, a couple of hours ago there was information that the R8 sports coupe, equipped with a V6 engine – in the picture it is at the bottom of the column, will cease to exist by the end of this year.
This means that the automaker will produce the R8 model only with a powerful V10 powertrain.
As a spokesman for Audi said in a recent interview, the R8 sports coupe, which was equipped with a 2.9-liter V6 engine, would no longer be needed by the company. In particular, because the same engine can be found in high-performance RS4 Avant, RS5 Coupe and RS5 Sportback. He added that the 5.2-liter V10 engine is ideally suited to the model R8. “This is the best engine for this car!”
Time will tell whether there is a future for the third generation of the sports coupe R8 – we sincerely hope that the Italian Lamborghini Huracan will have a worthy competitor in the face of the R8.
Meanwhile, the current version of the R8 can again get the version with the drive to the rear axle. Note that earlier the automaker had such a car performance (it received the prefix RWS) – only 999 copies were produced.
But in the meantime, a prototype of the new Audi RS7 Sportback came across to agile foreign journalists.
