Audi officially unveiled the new Audi A3 SedanApril 21, 2020
The second generation of one of the most successful Audi models today officially debuted.
The new A3 sedan received a more sporty design. Compared to its predecessor, it is now 4 centimeters longer – 4.5 meters, and its wheelbase remains unchanged. The width of the sedan increased by 2 centimeters to 1.82 meters, and now the model is 1 centimeter higher than the first generation. This made it possible to make the interior of the novelty more spacious – in front, the stock of space overhead increased by 2 centimeters. At 425 liters, the luggage compartment is exactly the same as in the previous model.
In the front part, a different bumper and radiator grille with a structure in the form of bee honeycombs, which is surrounded by bright headlights, can be noted. Outside, they form trapezoidal angles that face down. The top-end optics with Matrix LED technology received new daytime running lights. They consist of a matrix of pixels consisting of 15 LED segments that can be individually activated.
The roof line descends from the central pillar dynamically – as in a compartment – and ends with a spectacular spoiler on the tailgate. Optionally available in carbon fiber, the spoiler provides a visual accent while emphasizing the powerful appearance of the four-door model.
Aerodynamics have improved due to the higher rear of the body compared to its predecessor, as well as due to the large diffuser. The result is a new A3 sedan with 2.0 TDI at 150 bhp. reaches a C d value of 0.25, which is 0.04 C d points better than the first generation. This is also facilitated by a controlled cooling air inlet with two electric shutters. They intelligently adjust the air flow according to the situation. In addition, the paneled bottom, exterior mirrors with improved aerodynamics and active cooling of the brakes reduce air resistance and make the car more aerodynamic.
The A3 Sedan is fully driver-oriented. So, the dashboard with the central MMI touch screen is slightly inclined towards the driver. The screen size is 10.1 inches. Already in the database, drivers are available a fully digital instrument panel with a diagonal of 10.25 inches. As an option, the Audi plus 12.3-inch display with several preset operating modes is offered.
As a multimedia system, the new Audi A3 sedan uses the advanced MMI Navigation plus, which uses the third-generation modular infotainment platform (MIB 3). MIB 3 boasts computing power ten times higher than in the previous model. MMI Navigation plus offers many Audi connect services as standard, including traffic information, news and additional information such as photos, opening hours and user reviews of objects on the map.
The new A3 sedan at the start of sales is available with one of two TFSI engines and one TDI engine. Version 35 TFSI is equipped with a 1.5-liter 150-hp engine, which is available either with a six-speed manual gearbox or with a 7-speed S tronic transmission. The latter uses a 48-volt hybrid system.
Version 2.0 TDI at 150 hp also works in conjunction with the seven-speed S tronic system, in which gear changes are carried out using a new electronic switch.
Presales of the new A3 sedan will begin in late April 2020 in Germany and many other European markets. Deliveries to customers will begin in the summer. Prices for version 35 TFSI start at 29,800 euros. Shortly after entering the market, a new basic version will appear, which is estimated at 27,700 euros.
