Audi officially introduced a subcompact A1 second generation hatchback. The smallest model of the German brand, which the company calls the “ideal companion for city life”, will become one of the most equipped and technically advanced cars in its class.

The novelty was built on the modular chassis of the Volkswagen concern – MQB A0, which underlies the new VW Polo and Seat Ibiza. Using this architecture allowed to increase the dimensions of the five-door version of the model, especially in the rear of the body. For example, the free space for the feet of the rear passengers has grown, and the volume of the luggage compartment has increased by 65 liters – up to 335 liters.
The line of motors Audi A1 of the second generation includes only gasoline engines – diesel engines will not be offered. The basic engine was a three-cylinder unit with a working volume of one liter, developing 95 and 118 horsepower. In addition, the hatchback will be available with a 1.5-liter turbo four with a capacity of 150 forces. Transmission is a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic with two clutches.
The top version of the A1 (40 TFSI) is equipped with a two-liter 200-hp supercharged engine that only works with the six-speed S tronic gearbox. In 2019, the model will show a full-fledged “charged” modification of the S1 with a 250-horsepower motor and all-wheel drive.
The list of available equipment of the new Audi A1 included adaptive shock absorbers, and the top versions of the model can be equipped with a modernized suspension with sport settings.
The basic equipment of the car includes a brand-new all-digital instrument panel with a 10.25-inch display. For the hatchback is available multimedia complex MMI Touch with touch screens 8.8 and 10.1 inches, the function of voice recognition and handwriting input system – like the new flagship A8.
The list of electronic assistants included a semi-automatic control system with the ability to recognize cars, people, animals and other objects on the road, as well as with adaptive cruise control, which operates at speeds up to 200 km per hour.
European sales of the Audi A1 second-generation should begin in November 2018. The prices for a novelty are not called yet.
