The new Audi RS 5 Coupe and RS 5 Sportback are powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 TFSI with 450 hp. power and 600 Nm of torque. As a transmission, an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission is used. Drive – branded full quattro. Thanks to the powerful engine, acceleration to 1 km / h takes 3.9 seconds for models, and the maximum speed is limited to 280 km / h.
“The revision of the RS 5 Coupe and RS 5 Sportback marks the successful completion of our 25th anniversary and the renewal of our lineup. Thanks to the standard Quattro permanent drive, they occupy a special position in their segment, ”“ quotes Oliver Hoffmann, managing director of Audi Sport GmbH, the press service of the brand.
The exquisite exterior design of the two RS 5 models is recognizable at first glance. The overall styling is reminiscent of the “older” models RS 6 and RS 7. The additional matrix LED headlights with laser lighting Audi are equipped with darkened frames that clearly distinguish the two RS models from the basic variation A5. Large, heavily defined air intakes received a new pentagonal cut.
The side sills and the rear diffuser insert have also been redesigned. Glossy black, brushed aluminum and carbon fiber bags give the mountings on the front and rear ends, as well as on the side sills, an even more individual look. Four rings and RS logos can be made in black on request. The Turbo Blue and Tango Red colors have been added to the color palette. The coupe is equipped with a carbon fiber roof with a fiberglass structure made of carbon fiber, which reduces the weight of the car by almost 4 kg.
Inside, the RS sports seats are fitted with Alcantara and leather as standard or Nappa thin leather as an option. An RS design package with red or gray accents is available on request. The controls, such as the steering wheel and selector lever, are equipped with Alcantara covers with red or gray contrast stitching. Also inside appeared 10.1-inch touch screen multimedia system MMI. The large stand-alone display with acoustic feedback is slightly tilted towards the driver. If the MMI navigation plus infotainment system is installed on board, the special RS monitor provides the driver with information on temperature, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, the quattro sport differential, tire pressure and tire temperature.
In addition to the usual suspension modes, the Audi drive select dynamic control system also offers two new modes, RS1 and RS2. After the driver sets the two modes according to his personal preferences and saves them, they are activated directly using the “RS MODE” button on the steering wheel without having to press the MMI touch screen again. The system can change important technical elements, such as engine settings, transmission, damping, steering, sports differential and a number of other parameters.
The updated RS 5 models are equipped with 19-inch wheels. The new 20-inch wheels are available on request in three versions, one of which is painted in gloss black and the other in matt bronze. In a standard braking system, steel discs are held by calipers painted black or red. Audi offers carbon-ceramic brake discs for the front axle as an alternative; their calipers are painted gray, red or blue.
Already at the start of sales, Audi Sport GmbH is offering a jubilee package for the updated RS 5 models. The “25 year anniversary RS package” pays tribute to the first 1994 RS RS – RS 2 model. The body is painted Nogaro blue; alternatively, it can also be painted black, Nardo gray and white. Additional elements are stored in a brushed aluminum case and glossy black; the wheels also retain a two-tone style. In Germany and other European countries, the RS 5 Coupe and RS 5 Sportback will be available at dealerships starting in spring 2020. The base price for both models is 83,500 euros in Germany.
