Audi E-Tron GTR can be a replacement for the current supercar R8?April 22, 2019
Originally introduced in 2006 with a V8 engine, the German supercar from Audi has already received its second generation, which means that the model will survive on the market for a couple more years. However, the receiver model has already been found, it will be an electric E-Tron GTR.
The German company Audi is in a festive mood as it celebrates the 10th anniversary of its R8 supercar with the V10 petrol engine – it was decided to celebrate with a special edition of the Decennium, but the future of the supercar is in question.
What will happen after this? Well, the R8 can completely leave the automaker’s model range – that is the data that appeared at the disposal of the foreign edition of CAR. It is reported that Audi will remove the naturally aspirated R8 and replace it with another car of a completely different nature. According to rumors, the receiver of the legendary supercar will receive the name “E-Tron GTR”. And this coupe will try to achieve the success that the electrified R8 E-Tron could not achieve.
Unsolved sources close to Audi, reported that the new electric supercar will offer a total power of 650 horsepower from three electric motors.
E-Tron GTR, as they say, uses all-wheel drive system and a solid-state battery with a capacity of 95 kWh, providing enough energy to travel 483 km. The novelty will receive a wireless charging system.
The R8 electric replacement is said to have the same platform on which the Porsche Taycan electric sedan is based, which will appear later this year and will reportedly be equipped with an aluminum chassis with a monocoque. Performance should be at the level of hypercar, at least in terms of acceleration – according to rumors, acceleration from zero to 100 km / h will take a little more than two seconds.
