Audi CEO hints at removing the TT modelMarch 11, 2019
Two decades after the first generation of the sports coupe entered the market, the future of the Audi TT hangs in the balance. Earlier it was reported that the model could turn into a 4-door coupe, now it was reported that production could be completely stopped.
Autocar reporters talked to brand CEO Bram Shot about the future of the sports car and asked him what would happen to the Audi TT. They received a rather unexpected answer.
“This is a very good question. I think the legendary model has a future. My heart bleeds when I hear this question! ”Answered Mr Shot. “I have something cooked in stock that can easily replace the TT sports coupe.”
The reasons for the revision by the management of the German brand of interest in the TT model is the fall in Audi sales and investments in electrification, mobility and new technologies.
“Audi should really be visible in the future, but electrification should be funded. I cannot afford to be in every country, in every segment, ”noted Shot.
The automaker has enough time to decide what to do with the future TT coupe. An updated version of this car was introduced last summer and went on sale in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2018. If, however, it is decided to stop production, the current version of the sports TT will remain on the market for a few more years.
The once burgeoning segment of compact sports cars seems to be in serious trouble. In addition to Audi, Mercedes has already said goodbye to the SLC roadster – at the Geneva Motor Show this year, the farewell versions of the Final Edition were presented.
