Atelier Icon introduced an unusual version of a 1954 Chevy pickupJune 27, 2019
The restored car received a completely independent suspension, and under its hood is a powerful modern V8 engine.
There are many true fans of classic American pickups in the world, and I can even argue for money, that this particular, absolutely incredible project will appeal to these people. Icon Californian company boasts several projects for the restoration of classic trucks, but this work is clearly different among their number.
This 1954 model Chevrolet Thriftmaster is in itself an unusual truck, because this particular model year had some unique features for this generation model, such as a one-piece curved glass. The truck has been completely restored, and at first glance you might think that this is a meticulous, absolutely original “time capsule” from Chevrolet with preserved body lines and amazing retro wheels.
Under the body, however, is a non-standard chassis with a fully independent suspension, massive Brembo brakes and a powerful Chevrolet LS3 V8 engine, which delivers 420 horsepower to the rear wheels. So yes, the truck looks just like a classic car, but it can show its capabilities in the race.
A few words about the cabin. Icon engineers not only completely restored the original interior of the car, but also added a few modern elements. Doors have manual window handles, but in reality they are large window switches. Sensors on the dashboard are digital devices that track all vehicle parameters and can even show acceleration times. Behind the screen in the dashboard is a stereo with Bluetooth. Leather seats and Alcantara is used instead of steel on the front panel.
