Aston Martin Develops New Rear View Camera SystemJanuary 3, 2020
Car mirrors have not changed much over the years. But technology will very soon make changes to these time-tested rear-view mirrors.
Thus, Aston Martin and Gentex are creating a new rear-view camera system for the upcoming models of the British brand. The new development will combine traditional mirrors and a flexible camera system.
It is worth noting that Gentex worked on the integration of cameras, software and a mirror screen. Then Gentex, together with Lumatech, designed the exterior mirrors. In this case, it is possible to install a full-fledged camera. Despite this, Aston Martin chooses a hybrid system that enables drivers to use typical mirrors of their car. This type of camera also allows motorists to customize the viewing mode in accordance with their preferences, using cameras or mirrors.
A feature of the Gentex camera system is the so-called full-screen mirror, which can work not only as a standard rear-view mirror with automatic dimming, but also as an LCD display. Also, the system can meet the requirements regarding the field of view established in different countries of the world due to the use of flat or curved glass. In turn, the cameras move when the driver retunes the look of a traditional mirror.
Aston and Gentex show off new camera technology at the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera at CES Las Vegas on January 7th.
