Aston Martin came up with a replacement for luxury cars – a multi-copterJuly 16, 2018
Aston Martin, in collaboration with Rolls-Royce, Cranfield University and Cranfield Aerospace Solutions, has developed a prototype autonomous aircraft with a hybrid powerplant. According to the manufacturer, the Volante Vision Concept should be a substitute for a luxury car.
“The journey from home to work takes an average one hour,” – says Andy Palmer, the head of the brand. – And the maximum distance on which we live from the office is determined by the availability of one or another type of transport. With the Volante Vision Concept, you can live in the suburbs and get to the place of work for the same time, while overcoming a great distance.”
At this stage, the multi-copter Volante Vision Concept is a design project demonstrating a vehicle of the near future, intended for movement within the boundaries of a large city. When developing a prototype, which can accommodate up to three adult passengers, the latest achievements of the aerospace industry and modern technologies for creating autonomous control systems were used.
For the design of the aircraft, equipped with the function of vertical take-off and landing, answered the chief designer Aston Martin Marek Reichman. He also worked on the appearance of DB11, the new Vantage, DBS Superleggera and hypercar Valkyrie.
For the Aston Martin prototype Volante Vision Concept – this is not the first attempt to imagine what will be the personal transport of the future and move away from traditional cars. In September last year, the British manufacturer and the American Triton Submarines presented a joint project – the concept of the Deepwater Project Neptune.
“Project Neptune” is equipped with a battery capacity of 30 kilowatt-hours. It can dive to a depth of 500 meters and conduct underwater up to 12 hours. The maximum speed of the submarine is 6.5 kilometers per hour.
