Apple patents battery charging system between mobile electric vehiclesOctober 28, 2018
Apple has filed a patent application to the Office of Patents and Trademarks of the United States, which describes the electric charging system in motion, known as Peloton. The role of the “charging station” in the system is performed by another electric vehicle (EV).
The description of the patent emphasizes that the proposed Coupertino dynamic charging system will allow electric vehicles to travel further, with great comfort and with less energy consumption.
The patent application states that the Peloton system can be used by two independent electric vehicles. But, it seems, it will allow you to tie a larger EV in the column.
Among other things, this will allow increasing the mileage on one charge due to the active use of “caravan” aerodynamics. Its essence lies in the fact that the vehicle moving in front creates a zone of discharged air, which dramatically reduces the aerodynamic resistance of the car moving behind.
Apple is proposing to use a special retractable bar for recharging, which will connect batteries of two (or more) electric vehicles.
Judging by the description, it will also provide interoperability on-board computers of several EVs, which will allow them to synchronize their speed and maneuver. If necessary, the bar is quickly removed inside the body of the rechargeable electric vehicle.
