An electric swap kit release for Toyota Land Cruiser J40

Toyota Land Cruiser J40 – one of the most famous Japanese SUVs. It was produced in 1960-1984, but still continues to be used by off-road fans. Of course, not without tuning. A new proposal is the conversion of the “old man” into an electric car. The turnkey integrated solution (swap kit) is developed and prepared to be offered by California-based Electric GT.

A demo of an electric SUV was built on the basis of the 1970 FJ40. Electric GT noted that today many companies are converting old cars to electric traction. Typically, such operations cost customers quite expensive, since a complete overhaul of the technical part is required. Therefore, this time the engineers decided to go the other way.

Employees of Electric GT set the task to create such an electric motor that would stand in place of the internal combustion engine without any additional modifications. Therefore, the electric motor is made in the form of a conventional V6. It is not only adapted to the standard mounting locations, but also fits perfectly with the standard mechanical transmission. Two options are planned: with a return of 140 hp. and 326 Nm or 240 hp and 460 Nm.

Visually, the new electric motors will also look almost like a V6 or V8, so that they do not violate the aesthetics of the engine compartment of the Land Cruiser J40. The use of standard mounts allows you to return the car to its original configuration, if desired, that is, insert the native engine back into it.

So far, several questions remain for the project. How much will the swap kit cost? When can I buy it? Are you planning to supply batteries? There are no answers yet. But the developers have already announced their desire to create a similar kit for the Land Cruiser FJ60.
