SSC North America (formerly known as Shelby Supercars) published photos of the Tuatara hypercar engine. According to preliminary information, this seven-liter twin-turbo “eight”, whose power is over 1350 horsepower and 1735 Nm of torque.
Touatara is a reptile living in New Zealand. Externally similar to a lizard, the Tuatha is part of a separate group of beaks. In Maori, their name means “peaks on the back”.
The development of the hypercar SSC Tuatara has been conducted since 2011. At the initial stage, the car was planned to be equipped with a 6.9-liter V8 engine with two turbochargers. The design capacity is 1369 horsepower (1,700 forces with the use of racing fuel). According to the manufacturer, the final figures will be higher than planned.
With such a motor up to 100 kilometers per hour, Tuatara could accelerate in 2.5 seconds, and its maximum speed would be 444 kilometers per hour. The development of the unit involved partner SSC firm Nelson Racing Engines.
In early August, SSC North America published new photos of the hypercar and announced the debut of its serial version. The company intends to present the “fastest road car” on August 26 at the Pebble Beach Elegance Competition.
