Americans named the 90 safest cars of 2021March 1, 2021
Based on research conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 90 safest vehicles have been named.
Recall that the United States has its own crash test methodology to assess the safety of cars. Moreover, in 2019, only 64 models received the Top Safety Pick award. It is noted that traditionally the most awards were earned by Volvo cars – at once 9 models were awarded the highest score in American crash tests. This shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the company invented the seat belt and its vehicles come with so many standard safety features.
The current ranking also includes Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra, Toyota Corolla, Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape and Hyundai Sonata among the safest models. The second list of 49 cars that received the highest Top Safety Pick + award mainly included premium models – the Audi A6, Cadillac XT6, Lexus NX and Volvo S60.
Only Mazda managed to get close to Volvo (7 models earned Top Safety Pick + rating), as well as Subaru and Audi (5 models each). But the Japanese Mitsubishi turned out to be an outsider – none of the models presented in the United States received the prestigious safety award.
