Amazon orders 1,800 Mercedes-Benz electric vansAugust 28, 2020
Mercedes-Benz has won its largest EV order to date as Amazon announced the acquisition of over 1,800 eVito and eSprinter electric vans.
The first batch of electric vans will be delivered to Amazon starting this year for use across Europe. The order included about 600 medium-sized eVito electric vehicles and over 1,200 large eSprinter electric vehicles.
“The addition of 1,800 EVs for delivery is another step on our path to building the world’s most sustainable vehicle fleet, and we will be moving quickly to see these vans in use this year,” – said Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.
The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter for Amazon are panel vans with a high roof, with a gross weight of 3500 kg and a maximum payload of 891 kg. They are equipped with the largest battery available on an eSprinter, with a net capacity of 47 kWh (55 kWh installed), allowing for 168 km of travel on a single charge.
The battery powers the 114 hp electric motor. and 295 Nm installed on the front wheels. eSprinter for Amazon is equipped with additional safety features such as electric parking brake, emergency brake assist, rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, and other assistants available for the model. They also come with a built-in quick charge feature that ensures the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 25 minutes.
The smaller panel van Mercedes-Benz eVito is equipped with a 35 kWh battery for a maximum range of 184 km. 600 eVito vans for Amazon will be mainly used in cities.
