If you have just returned from an intergalactic journey without being able to contact the Earth, we have very important news for you: the Volkswagen Golf of the eighth generation has already been introduced. The compact car from Wolfsburg, the European bestseller and one of the best-selling models in history, retains the basic look of the previous generation, but has a number of cardinal changes in the exterior design. There is also a significant improvement in technology, including a more sophisticated infotainment system, security systems and modernized motors.

During 2020, we will be presented with several more versions of the updated family. In this article we have collected information about all versions of the “golf”.

So, in the spring of 2020, we will be shown the high-performance Golf GTI and GTD. At present, Volkswagen representatives do not disclose official details about this sports pair, but some preliminary conclusions can be made.

The new generation GTI will be able to boast more than 241 horsepower. The car will receive front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The GTD, a sporty Golf with a diesel engine, should develop a power of 197 hp. with the new 2.0 TDI engine.

Next July, we are due to introduce the plug-in hybrid version of the eighth generation Golf – we are talking about the GTE. Such a novelty will receive a 48-volt power source and a turbocharged engine with an electric motor. GTE will be available in 201 and 242 hp options. Both will use a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine and a 13-kilowatt lithium-ion battery.

Next September, the Golf R is expected to show. Rumors suggest that, as standard, it can develop power of about 326 hp. and about 395 hp for the more hardcore version of R Plus. Both cars will be four-wheel drive. A slightly less powerful TCR Golf should show in the same month. Most likely, he will receive a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 286 hp. and front-wheel drive.

And finally, in October 2020, we will be shown the Golf Variant (station wagon). Off-road performance Alltrack with increased ground clearance and four-wheel drive will appear later.
