All-electric Genesis G80 spotted on the trackSeptember 4, 2020
The Genesis G80, the first Korean luxury car, has hit the track. The luxury eG80 is known to take a premium brand at least two years to launch.
A prototype Genesis eG80 (tentatively named for the electric car) has been spotted on a track near the Nürburgring track in Germany. The new car is the brand’s first all-electric vehicle to compete with the Tesla Model S and Mercedes-Benz EQS in the luxury electric vehicle market.
According to Hyundai Motor Group, the Genesis brand is expected to launch its first electric vehicle in 2021, and an electric version of the G80 is underway as part of that plan. The company registered the right to a trademark called “eG80”, referring to the name of the electrified G80 model.
The first thing that catches your eye is the prototype grill. Unlike existing models with an internal combustion engine, the radiator grille is closed. The location of the charging connector is not yet known, but it is expected to be located on the front panel. The electric G80 spotted in Korea last April didn’t have a separate external charging port, so the battery was charged directly through the open hood. In addition, the rear bumper has received a new look, which has lost the dual exhaust.
